Anastomosis

Anastomosis art residency was born from the seeds planted by Rocio Graham an artist from the 3rd spiral of the Power to Truth project. In collaboration with the Hear/d residency ( AUArts Student Association), Clematis artist collective and Reciprocal zine collective with the generous sponsorship of Sparrow Art Space this residency seeks to find the interwoven communities and connections of the people that create at the shores of the Bow and Elbow river.

Residency inter-weavers: Rocio Graham, Natalia Melara, Jill Dolan and Katherine Foster

Anastomosis

/əˌnastəˈmōsəs/

Meaning of word :a cross-connection between adjacent channels, tubes, fibers, or other parts of a network-

As the Bow and Elbow river braid into the land of Mohkinstsis known as Calgary, we reflect on the interwoven lives of the people that care for this land past and present. This residency seeks to explore the past anastomosis that led to the creation of Treaty 7 and what does it mean to be a treaty 7 people now?

How is our own personal story and the story of this land an anastomosis of sorts? This is an invitation to evaluate our own responsibility to a collective concept of home. To create a braided future for all we must trace back to the origins that brought us here. This residency seeks to build reciprocal, supportive relationships between artists and their communities.
