BIRB: Rawry & Pohly

In their November 2021 residency at Sparrow Artspace titled BIRB: Rawry & Pohly will embark on an exploration of the liminal space between societies of birds and humans, the ways they intersect and interact, and our shared urban ecologies.

Through sketches, screenprints, sculpture, short stories and poetry the works created will explore the dynamic facets of birds and humans through satire and humour, with a focus on how our behaviours are reflective of our shared animality.

Calgary artists, Rawry & Pohly (Kevin Chow & Jamie Mason), have pursued a singular passion in their art: mirroring childhood curiosity back at the viewer to ignite that spark of awed innocence within. The motto, "celebrate your inner child," which they employ through the calculated use of mixed mediums; sculptures, canvas, prints, drawings and the written word, alludes to the elements of whimsy, humour, and joy in their work.
