Pre-Columbian Creatures with Clay

  • Sparrow Artspace 36 4 Street Northeast Calgary, AB, T2E 3R7 Canada (map)

All ages, pay-what-you-can, please register

This workshop will be led by Matias Martinez and will be centred around learning, making and discussing a section of Pre-Colombian creatures and mythology. We will be taking a dive into the mythological world of indigenous latin culture through a contemporary lens. We will be creating 1-3 pieces together that focus around the idea of a pendant or small statue of sorts.

What we'll be making:

  1. Classical tablet style of the creatures face

  2. 3D version of the head of the creature

  3. A silhouette of the full creature you would want to be making

We will be going through techniques on how to work with oven bake clay along with a variety of tools to play and explore with. We will have a few options on the creatures/gods we can create along with some readings and discussions.
