When you sew, do you end up all in knots? If so, then this traditional Indigenous art form may be for you! Tufting beautiful flowers involves sewing and knotting bundles of caribou hair to leather or canvas/fabric, then trimming the hair to shape. Join us and learn how easy it is to make your own colourful flower pendant. All supplies are included.
This Workshop is part of the Honouring the Children Exhibition & Workshops, organized by CIF Reconciliation Society, at Sparrow Artspace who thank their funding partners: Calgary Arts Development and Sparrow Artspace!
Taught by Amber Boyd.
Amber Boyd, is a Métis artist and writer from Cochrane, Alberta. She received her first sewing machine at seven when she learned to sew, and her aunt taught her embroidery afterward. Over the years, she’s sketched, painted, and embroidered works of art and eventually gravitated toward the pen and began writing and is currently pursuing a Master of Fine Arts in creative writing. Amber is inspired by the landscape outside her house and enjoys engaging in various artistic activities like beading, embroidery, painting medicine flowers, and working with natural materials.
