Meeting the Self: An Exploration through Portraiture

  • Canopy Studios 1723 9 Street Southwest Calgary, AB, T2T 3C3 Canada (map)

Learn how to tell your personal story through the intimate art of self-portraiture.

We will go over the inspiration, process and meaning that can be found in developing your own self-portrait practice. Participants will have time to brainstorm and create their own image so you will need a camera of some kind (even just a phone will do) for this workshop.

Do you ever feel something but you don’t have the words to express it? Have you experienced an event or had a revelation that you wish you could keep with you forever? Even as it feels like it’s slipping away? Are you shedding layers? Growing? Evolving into new versions of yourself before your eyes? Or are you trying to process something meaningful? Is there a part of yourself you want to get to know on a deeper level?

Self-portraiture is a lens through which you can meet yourself; and the many versions of you who came before and will come after. This isn’t just a standard selfie. It’s a meaningful, thoughtful and intentional process by which we can heal from and express that which we are working through, healing from or expanding into. It can also represent that which is bringing us joy. Or capture a moment we don’t ever want to forget.

By donation.
Registration required. Workshop will take place at Canopy Studios
(1723 9th St. SW)
